about

On what was to become his most popular recording with his trio, on "... Plays for Monk," Bobby Broom presents a program of compositions by perhaps the most iconic pianist/composer in jazz, Thelonious Monk.

All but one of the ten selections were written by Monk. The lone, "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" was a nod to his memorable band and solo piano versions from the 1950s.

Broom also paid tribute to Monk's classic recording, "Monk's Music," by recreating its album cover with his guitar in place of Monk in the red wagon.
